HACKNEY NINE supports organisations and individuals that seek to achieve social justice goals through peaceful and educational means.

The idea of social justice is that all people from all communities, in any corner of the world should have security, health, well-being, justice, privileges, and opportunity regardless of their legal status, sex, political beliefs, economic position, ethnic origins or sexual orientation.

Social Activism is essential to bring about meaningful change to social injustices. Historically, social activism in movements such as civil disobedience have helped to realize everything from the 40-hour work week, child labor laws, voting rights for women and people of colour and stronger environmental policies. To quote the abolitionist Frederic Douglass, “Power concedes nothing without a demand.”

A cause close to our hearts is the fight against Modern Slavery, prevalent in many underdeveloped countries and those with minority communities. However, it also exists in developed countries. According to the Global Slavery Index an estimated 50,000 people in the United States are living in conditions of modern slavery.

Tens of thousands toil in slave-like conditions in factories and homes. Profiteers prey on vulnerable people and operate with relative impunity. Modern Slavery today takes one of the following forms: bonded labour, domestic servitude, sexual exploitation or forced marriage.

A portion of our profits are given to organisations and groups that are fighting to stop modern slavery. Join us in our quest to say NO to Modern Slavery.
